RIALTO, Calif. (AP) -- A commuter train collided with a freight train Thursday in Southern California, producing no serious injuries but bringing back memories of a deadly commuter-train wreck in the region just two months ago.

A Metrolink train heading east from Los Angeles toward San Bernardino collided with a BNSF train about a half-mile from the Metrolink station in Rialto around 11:30 a.m., agency spokeswoman Joanna Capelle said.

California MetroLink & Train Accident Lawyers

Train accidents are amongst the most violent and dangerous types of transportation accidents a person can survive. Railroad accidents may involve freight or passenger trains, locomotives, subways, or local commuter train systems. Due to the speeds that the passenger cars travel and the lack of protection typical train seating affords its passengers, the end result of train accidents is almost always catastrophic injury and very often, death.

The Los Angeles personal injury attorneys at Panish, Shea & Boyle have extensive experience handling -- and leading -- complex cases involving the complicated laws that govern railroad and train accidents. Our firm was a member of the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee of both the Placentia Metrolink Train Crash and the Glendale Metrolink Train Derailment. This means we were in charge of directing the litigation for the plaintiffs.

Panish, Shea & Boyle has a strong record of recovering significant verdicts and settlements for its clients. Our attorneys have won the largest verdict in American legal history; the largest defective tire verdict in the United States; and the largest verdict ever awarded against the City and County of San Francisco. In fact, we have won more than 150 verdicts or settlements of $1 million or more, including several substantial train accident verdicts.

Metrolink Suing Contractor over Deadly September 12th Train Collision in Chatsworth, California

Rail agency sues contractor over L.A. collision

The Associated Press
October 26, 2008

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ The Southern California Regional Rail Authority has filed a federal lawsuit asking a judge to determine whether its contractor can be held responsible for the deadly collision of one of its Metrolink commuter trains and a freight train.

The rail agency, already facing two lawsuits related to the Sept. 12 disaster, sued Connex Railroad LLC after they could not agree on whether their contract protects the other from liability, according to court papers released Friday. Connex provides engineers who run the Metrolink trains, including the engineer blamed for the deadly collision.

WASHINGTON—In the wake of the deadly train collision in Los Angeles, California's U.S. senators are questioning a federal law that sets a $200 million limit on damage payouts to victims of a train crash.

With 25 dead and more than 130 injured, last week's head-on crash between a Metrolink commuter train and a freight train could test that limit for the first time since its enactment in 1997, experts said.

LOS ANGELES — Lawyers with expertise in personal injury litigation against railroads anticipate that more than 100 lawsuits seeking up to $500 million in damages could be filed stemming from last week's crash involving a commuter train in Los Angeles that killed 26 people.

On Friday afternoon, a northbound Metrolink train carrying about 220 passengers collided head-on with a freight train operated by Union Pacific Railroad Co., which was heading southbound on the same track, near Chatsworth, a suburb of Los Angeles. In addition to the deaths, more than 130 are believed to be injured, some in severe condition.
